Court Amends Timeline of Annual Attorney Registration

By Order dated February 25, 2019, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania amended Rule 219 of the Pennsylvania Rules of Disciplinary Enforcement to alter the dates by which an attorney must complete the annual registration requirement to avoid the assessment of non-waivable late payment penalties.

Rule 219(f) is amended to change the dates as follows:

  • An attorney must complete registration by July 16 to avoid the assessment of the first non-waivable late payment penalty; and,
  • An attorney must complete registration by August 1 to avoid assessment of the second non-waivable late payment penalty.

Prior to the amendment of this rule, the dates by which an attorney must complete registration to avoid the automatic assessment of late payment penalties were July 31 and August 31, respectively.

The new rule takes effect March 27, 2019.
